Good afternoon, rockers! It's Friday and the weekend is nearly here. Our final entry of the week, dropping in at #n11 is the mighty "Gimme Shelter".
"Gimme Shelter" is the opening track to the 1969 album Let It Bleed, by the Rolling Stones. This epic was written by lead vocalist Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards, the band's primary songwriting team. Greil Marcus, writing in Rolling Stone magazine at the time of its release, praised the song, stating that the band has "never done anything better". NME ranked "Gimme Shelter" as the best ever song by the Rolling Stones, and you lot have also ranked it as their best.
This rock classic was well ahead of its years, and many would argue that it still holds up today. The question is, should it have ranked higher on our list?
